Day 7 - Part of the forum at Patara. Here it was surprisingly free of other tourists, most having been lured away to the long beach nearby.

Day 8 - Today's route.

Day 8 - Baz, our local guide, explains about our goatherd lunch host Mr Hussein, who despite appearances to the contrary is apparently 82 years old and apart from doing national service during the war has never been away from his herd of goats. He is forced now to carry a rifle due to predation of his beloved goats by wolves which have been reintroduced into this area to keep down the population of wild boars.

Day 8 - Mr Hussein's secret for a long healthy life.

Day 8 - The legendary Mr Hussein. Our team leader, Peter, carries a whistle and he gave it to Mr Hussein with great ceremony. He was delighted with it and could be heard blowing it long after our departure.

Day 8 - Mr Hussein's 62 year old wife shows us some of the photos people have sent them from previous visits. I don't envy the poor postman pedaling his bike up into these hills to bring them!

Day 9 - A day off and a nice walk to a secluded bay for lunch and a swim. The return was a very relaxing boat journey.

Day 9 - with access only on foot or by boat this was a lovely and sparsely populated place for a relaxed day in warm sunshine.

Day 10 - Our route for today's outing.

Day 10 - the Harbour and approaches to Simena. If you look closely a sarcophogus can be seen standing in the water towards the bottom left, a result of the devastating earth quakes which hit the area in the first millennium.

Day 10 - Onto the water now and a short sail over to Kekova Island to see the sunken city there.

Day 10 - Some of the many remains both above and below the water on Kekova Island. We had a BBQ on the boat after a refreshing swim in the crystal clear warm waters here.

Day 10 - Back onto dry land, the coach took us to Demre (Myra) another place claiming to be the home of St Nicholas (Father Christmas). Here we saw the ruins of the theatre and these burial chambers.

Day 11 - The route of the walk today.

Day 11 - There were many of these wild Cyclamen flowers on the paths we used.

Day 11 - The dog was at the start point and as we all moved off it just decided to follow and at every stop would look about to make sure everyone was present. In the end Sian, pictured here, christened him 4144 from the registration tag fixed to his ear.

Day 11 - This delighful small beach was on the route.

Day 11 - The man who ran this juice bar said he stayed here for 6 months throughout the summer and made his money selling fruit juices. you could chose your fruit and he would use the manual juice press to extract it - a mixture of Oranges, Lime and Pomegranate was popular.

Day 11 - The turning point at the lighthouse Gelidonia. It would have been a lovely place to stop for lunch had there been less rubbish left lying about.

Day 11 - 4144 was still with us having walked the 5 miles up a steep hill in the midday heat. Here we gave him water and some of our lunches. When we left he stayed there, possibly to follow other walkers down to his starting point later.

Day 11 - After a hot day walking its time for a beer.

Day 11 - After dinner we adjourned to the Barking Mosquito bar a five minute walk from the hotel for a drink. This shows their respect for animals -, the barman fetched another chair so we wouldn't disturb this cat.

Day 12 - Where the walk went on this day.

Day 12 - After a fairly challenging walk we arrived at the area where methane gas reaches the surface and is known as the Chimaera. This is a large group of Germans walking in the opposite direction.

Day 12 - one of the gas outlets burning off. I was told that the flame is higher in the winter than the summer - perhaps because the sun isn't so strong the flame shows up more.
