The map of the walk - the large loop was walked in a clockwise direction while in the afternoon, after the pub lunch, we went anticlockwise.

Looking back towards Abbotsbury with St Catherine's Chapel on the hill to the right. The Fleet lagoon, thought to have existed for around 5000 years, is the body of water inland from the long shingle Chesil Beach, which began to be formed about 7000 years ago.

After lunch at the Ilchester Arms we climbed the hill to St Catherine's Chapel. By now the sun was beginning to sink towards the horizon.

Twenty six started the walk in the morning but our band after lunch was depleted somewhat by deserters left at the pub - they missed a lovely afternoon amble.
