Checking out of The Holiday Inn Express, Port Moresby, at the start of our journey to Kokoda.
All a bit apprehensive about what is to come!
We are each weighed and so is our baggage.
On board the plane - a charter to Kokoda
Our friendly pilot
Kokoda airstrip and terminal building!
Seen at Kokoda, not a bad idea!
A beautifully kept garden in Kokoda
The museum - note the aircraft wing standing on the left.
Our porters line up for the obligatory group photo - mine is fourth from the left, Dick Tau - John's porter Tony is next to Dick on the right
The easy bit, a gentle upward slope towards the forest covered mountains. The humidity has hit us like a brick.
Time for a break and some lunch
The kitchen porters cook us a hot lunch.
The boss - looking relaxed.
We're off again and the path becomes more varied.
The start of the almost constant up and down which would become the norm.
A stop to admire the view
The first of several memorials to previous walkers who have unfortunately died on the track - a sobering sight.
Heading up towards our first stop for the night.
The builders show a great deal of confidence in their construction techniques.
There are lots of wonderful plants and flowers on the track.
After a long day it's time for our hot meal.
For the first time the porters gather round and sing for us as they will do every evening - the harmonies are confident and sung with gusto. And so to bed at about 6:30.
